communicationsRecently picked up the new Factory Records box set “Communications” As with a lot of boxed sets i’m tempted to buy I already owned  a handful of the tracks that appear on the collection but the tracks that I did not previously own made it a no brainer purchase. Not only being a HUGE fan of Factory Records but it’s in-house designer Peter Saville as well, I firmly believe Factory is/was not just one of the most important record labels in alternative music but UK pop history as well.

The Collection celebrates nearly 20 years with the heavy hitters Joy Division/New Order, Happy Mondays, Northside  and A Certain Ratio but includes a boat load of killer lesser known bands such as Section 25, The Swamp Children and Miaow just to name a few. Sure hard core fans will complain that a few tracks may have been left off but with excellent liners notes from former NME writer Paul Morley the set won me over and is not just a repackaged beginners guide.
